Shadows are a product of strong light being blocked. And you can find shadows everywhere. Walk a street in early morning or late afternoon and you’ll see long, shadow shapes falling off buildings, rails, bikes, and people. You can also shoot overhead for an interesting angle. Indoors you can even a single lamp to turn an ordinary scene into shapes and silhouettes. The game is to notice the light first, then place yourself (or your subject) in the shadows.
